How to know if you’re really friends.
ByWe’ve know Laura and David Scalf for over 11 years now. We first met them in Mustang, OK. They were members of First Baptist where I served as the Pastor of Education.
We quickly became good friends in the 4 years we lived in Mustang. We lived a block away from each other for 3 years.
Laura was Chris’ 3rd grade teacher and Sara’s accountability partner. David and I became good friends and also accountability partners. We stayed connected after we moved to Edmond, OK to serve at Henderson Hills.
This past year the Scalf’s have had a few major changes in their lives. The began visiting Henderson Hills over a year ago and joined soon after travelling to Edmond from Mustang about a 35min drive if Laura is driving.
Laura decided that she wanted to try something different than being a school teacher. She took a job at a friend’s company here in Edmond. This past winter she had some difficulty getting home one evening after work and because of that they decided to look into moving. Things went pretty quickly after deciding to move. About 2 weeks after putting the house on the market it was sold.
Today they are signing the papers to sell their home and also purchase their new home in Edmond. The Scalf’s will become official Edmondites today!
Here’s where our friendship gets tested. While they are “homeless” we offered to watch their dogs. We have a fenced backyard and had a dog a few years ago. Our dog was a golden retriever. I’m not sure what kind of dogs theirs are, but they’re just a little bigger than a large rat.
I left to go get my hair cut and while I was gone Sara called saying, “THEIR DOGS ARE GONE!” They dug out underneath our gate! After two escapes and finally locking them into our garage; we have finally secured their rats dogs.
I sure hope they come to get them before they run away and get eaten by some wild creature. We’ll see just how deep this friendship really is!

Yes, our dogs are safe and sound and only a little tramatized by the experience.
I am glad we decided to let our kids stay with us during our homeless phase and just trusted you with our dogs (Yorkies (Boomer and Bailey)).
You and Sara have been great friends to Laura and me through the years and we are glad to be offically in Edmond!
