C3 Conference (Tommy Barnett)
Holy cow…Tommy is 70!
If you’ve ever wanted to quit, you’re not the only one: Abraham, Peter, Martin Luther, John the Baptist, Charles Spurgeon, Winston Churchill,
The Honor of Wanting to Quit
- It’s a sign of success – those who want to quit at least have something to quit.
- The more you have to quit, the more you want to quit – it becomes more dangerous, risky, isolated, confusing, laborious, time consuming, etc.
- You can enjoy the luxury of wanting to quit, because you know you won’t – God’s call keeps us going. It’s not a burden that keeps us going.
How Do we Keep from Quitting
- We have to burn the bridges behind us – we have to decide what we want to do for the rest of our lives and cut off the rest of the distractions/desires.
- Don’t tell anyone you want to quit when you want to quit – they might take you up on your desire.
- Don’t expose yourself to what you don’t want to be – hang around people who are positive, only put in what is helpful not destructive.
- Lock yourself in so you will not quit.
Tommy told a story of how the church showered love on he and his wife when they celebrated 50 years in ministry. Weaved in this was how God is using the Dream Center in LA to reach out to prostitutes, pimps, drug addicts, gang members, etc. It was an incredible story.
He also shared about how his wife left him and then decided to come back home. The key to the story is that they never quit.
In the last 5 years he has seen more people come to know the Lord as in the 48 years previously. If you hang in the best is yet to come.

That really was a great message. I love hearing stories of God’s faithfulness! It sounded like He is doing amazing things through the Dream Center. What a privilege for Tommy, his wife, and children that in staying the course they got to be a part of the Big Story!
