C3 Conference (T.D. Jakes)
T.D. Jakes closed out the C3 Conference. It was a GREAT decision to have T.D. finish. He brought the house down! T.D. is the Senior Pastor of the The Potter’s House, Dallas, TX. Here are my take-aways from his talk:
- You haven’t begun to preach until you become controversial.
- The cost of leadership is conflict.
- People generally admire their leaders most after they are dead!
- If you are not experiencing conflict as a leader, you’re not leading.
- Those who were looking for Jesus didn’t recognize Him.
- Those who had been with Jesus didn’t recognize Him.
- Those who had studied Him didn’t recognize Him.
- Those who had heard Him didn’t recognize Him.
- The beginning of wisdom as a leader is recognizing that you don’t know everything.
- You can’t lead people who are not thirsty.
- Jesus please abide with us!
- When Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples He:
- Took the bread
- Blessed the bread
- Broke the bread
- Gave the bread away
- God has used this pattern over and over in history, not just with things but also with man. Examples: Joseph, Abraham, Moses, Jesus.
- What stage are you in?
- Taking stage
- Blessing stage
- Breaking stage - this is really the blessing stage
- Sharing stage
- We need to be careful to not give power and leadership to those in the broken stage.
- We need to be careful to not give power and leadership to those who have never been broken.
- Leadership is really spelled ‘Loneliness’.
T.D. has his own piano player. He also has someone come up and set his items up on the stage for him. Those would include: water, Bible, notes, towel, etc.
This was my first time to hear T.D. speak live. It was worth the wait.
