Apple TV and the Church (pt. 3)

By Jeff Wilson on Monday, February 4th, 2008

So how can you use the video capabilities of the Apple TV for ministry? Great question. Here are some initial thoughts. Many of the thoughts could be done on a computer alone, but the Apple TV shines in that it allows you to use it for larger audiences. So keep that in mind as you are reading.

Ways to get video from your church on Apple TV:

  • iTunes
  • YouTube

Ways to use your video with the Apple TV:

  • Infomercials - want to get the word out about an event/program/Bible Study…now you can
  • Event recaps - show video taken at an event for all to see
  • Worship experiences - show your worship services to the world
  • Leadership training/moments - record your Leadership meeting and make it available online

Where could the Apple TV be used:

  • Church lobby - use it for announcements, recaps, etc.
  • Multi-site - now you can have a multi-site without having to transport through DVD or satellite
  • Retreats - take the Apple TV with you to show a clip from a movie, show a sermon and use for discussion
  • Small Groups - show a clip from a sermon and use it for discussion
  • Retirement homes - purchase an Apple TV for a retirement home if they will show your church services
  • Individual members homes - here are just a few ways
    • homebound and shut-ins
    • ill members
    • new parents
    • catching up on a missed sermon
    • reviewing a sermon you really liked
    • discussing a sermon with your family
  • Promotional events - we used our Apple TV to display photos and video at a college job and internship fair

Those are just a few ways that we are looking to use the Apple TV at Henderson Hills.

How about you? Got any other ideas?
