Apple TV and the Church (pt. 2)

By Jeff Wilson

One thing that I’ve really enjoyed about our Apple TV is how it displays photos. With Apple like magic slide shows are seamlessly created out of a folder(s) on your computer. Another great thing…you choose what folders you want the Apple TV to load. Options for different fades and also different times between fades are available. Want to play a song with your slide show? No problem. Choose a song from your iTunes library and you’re good to go.

How will this help the church? Being a Student Pastor for 14 years I can’t tell you the number of slide shows that I created. Obviously times have changed and it’s a lot easier now than it was back in the day. But, the Apple TV makes it so easy. And with the options to hook it up to an HDTV or a video projector, it’s ready made to show those great photos of kids with a mouth full of food to large groups.

We’re also looking for ways to display content, ie slides, in certain areas of our church building. This is one way that we think our Children’s ministry, for instance, could display photos from events and also slides promoting upcoming events, activities, etc. We think the Apple TV will be a good option for each ministry to display information related to their specific ministry very easily and very professionally.

Next I’ll talk about the Apple TV and video.

Jeff,
I read on another blog this morning about a book you might be interested in regarding the informative slides. The book is written by a communications expert named Garr Reynold and is titled “Presentation Zen.” His blog is presentationzen.com and is pretty good. Anyway, I’ll let you know when I finish the book if you’re interested in taking a look at it.
