8 Ways To Make A Great First Impression
#8 Research The Company
Good interviews happen because those being interviewed have done their homework. If you are going to an interview, it’s best to know key details related to the company.
So how does this relate to the church? Here’s a few ways:
- Anticipate questions that First Time Guests will ask. Here are a few that we are asked on a regular basis:
- Do you have different worship service styles?
- Why don’t you have a Sunday night service?
- Why do you have Home Small Groups?
- What would be a good Small Group for me to attend?
- Why do you have a Teaching Team?
- What do you have for my teenagers?
- What do you have for my children?
- What security steps are taken to protect my children?
- Train/Update your volunteers initially and regularly.
- Train those that will be greeters, counselors, kiosk workers, ushers on the basic information about the church.
- Inform workers of special items for that day. There may be a special event happening, a ministry being highlighted that weekend, or an event registration taking place. Let them know where to direct people.
- Train them on the importance of personalization. Help them see beyond the questions. Get to know the individual. Take time to welcome them and make them feel comfortable.
- Know what type of people you are attracting.
- Regularly look at the information you receive from First Time Guests: ages, marital status, # of children per family, geographical information, etc.
- Understand the demographics of your church. Here are a few ways to get that information and also why it is useful:
- Chris Forbes from MinistryMarketingCoach.com shares reasons why churches need to know demographic information.
- Greg Ligon shared ways to find out demographics for your city or county in this post, from The Multi-site Church Revolution . Here are a few of those ways:
- CityData.com - city-by-city demographic data
- Dataplace.org - looks more dynamic, cleaner presentation
- Epodunk.com - more in-depth info, for large and small cities/towns
- Fortiusone.com - up and coming, merges with Google Map
- Yahoo Real Estate
- Neighboroo.com - (I have used this site and was very impressed)
You don’t have to know the answers to all the questions. Just be well informed and you will make a Great First Impression.
