8 Ways To Make A Great First Impression

#7 Make Good Conversation

I’m convinced that being a good conversationalist is a gift.  One of my friends, Ken Maulsby, is truly a gifted conversationalist.  He can talk to anyone.  In fact we’ve seen him talking to a brick wall before and was enjoying it!

Having “people” people at key points in your building is a way to make a GREAT first impression. Keep your eyes out for this type of a person.  Here are a few ways to help you identify them:

  • Watch for last person to leave the church.  Usually it’s because they’ve been talking.
  • Who knows everyone in your church?  They know everyone because they talk to them.
  • Who is everyone’s best friend?
  • Who is the person that you would go to find out about (enter anything in your mind)….the one with all the connections is a great person to enlist.

A few years ago we totally relocated our church 4.5 miles east of our old facilities.  In the building process we added a cafe.  We looked and looked for someone to be our Food Services Director.  One day Rick Strack, one of our members, told me he was retiring.  He was the owner of one of the “favorite/hot spot” diners in the Metro OKC area.  I asked him if he would consider being our Food Services Director.  One reason I thought he would be good is because he knows everyone!  There is no one that is a stranger to this man.  He knows how to Make Good Conversation.

Rick agreed and now he is a main reason many people have a smile on their face after visiting Henderson Hills.  Rick knows how to Make Good Conversation and because of this gift, many now call Henderson Hills their home.

No, Rick is not for sale.  Ken might be though!
