8 Ways To Make A Great First Impression
#5 - Introduce Yourself And Ask For Names
People love to be remembered. When someone visits your church, one thing they are looking for is a place where they can feel like a part of the family. They want to be known by others and they want to know others. It’s just how we are wired.
So…how can we do that when someone visits our church for the first time? Here’s a few suggestions:
- Have your volunteers wear name tags.
- Introduce yourself to the guests and ask them their names. Be sure and ask all of the members of the family their names. When you focus on the children and teenagers, parents notice.
- Use their names in the conversation. Each time you say their name, you’re more likely to remember their name. One other thing, people love to hear their name being said.
- Introduce them to others as you walk through the buildings. I was introducing a family to one of our small group leaders the other day and they had a mutual friend. Here’s the cool thing…I walked by the same class the next week and this new family was in their small group. It’s so cool to see people get plugged in to the body!
The key here is to make their visit personal. Using their name in conversations, introducing them to others, and remembering their name for future visits, helps to make their visit to your church personal.
Don’t rush, take your time. You might just make a friend and help them find their next church.
