How about those Sooners!

ESPN is writing about the best football programs in the NCAA in the last decade:
“Storied programs dominate Ladder 119’s top rungs“.
The Sooners are ranked #5.  It will be hard to listen to talk radio the next few days with all the Sooner Nation chiming in about how we should have been ranked higher.
I love the [...]

Facebook and the Church

I’ve been using Facebook for a little over 4 months now.  Not too much of an early adopter with this one.  My sons have been power users for about 2 yrs.
I joined Facebook to see how it could be used for the church.  In the past four months here are a few ways that I [...]

YouTube and the Church

YouTube just made available a customizable player that allows you to choose how you want your videos displayed and more importantly what videos you want displayed.  It also gives you a code that you can add to your blog or web site to push the videos of your choosing to your audience.
So…what are the benefits [...]

Communicating from Camp

Over the past 7 years we have tried different methods of communicating with people back home while groups were at camp or on mission trips.  Our student and children’s ministries have relied on old tried and true “hot line” method of leaving a message on our phone system for parents to be able to call [...]

Purpose Statements

I’ve never been too big of a fan for purpose statements.  One main reason is that most churches spend a ton of time trying to come up with one that will make everyone happy and then they do nothing with it.  (I know this is pretty cynical isn’t it?)
We have a purpose statement at Henderson [...]

Person of the Week - Bill Taylor

On Monday I went to a funeral.  Dee Dee, the mother of one of our pastors, had been in a nursing home for a number of years and became critically ill and died last week.
Just over two years ago Bill Taylor felt God leading him to begin a Nursing Home Ministry.  Bill is a financial [...]

Guess what it’s doing again?

RAINING!  The rain, or actually my weather alert radio, woke me up at 4am!  I went to check my electronic rain gauge and at 4am we had received over 3 inches of rain since midnight!  This is CRAZY!
40 days of straight rain is not too hard to comprehend anymore.

Storing Photos

Jim, over at ChurchTechMatters.com, recently posted about a dilemma he’s having regarding backing up his photos.  Here’s what we’re doing, Henderson Hills, to back up our photos and it’s the same process I use to back up photos at home.

We purchased a Flickr Pro account to store all the photos that are taken for events [...]

Ministry Burnout

Having been in full time ministry for over 25 years, I’ve seen about everything.  One thing that is particularly disconcerting is ministry burnout.  Whether it’s by someone in full time ministry, a spouse or a family member of someone in ministry, or someone who is a volunteer at a church, the numbers who are experiencing burnout [...]
