Is NO the default answer?

Seth Godin wrote an interesting blog post yesterday titled “The Verizon guy who turned down the iPhone.”  In the article he makes a few statements that I would like to see if we can apply to the church:

Are we happy we turned down ______________ (you fill in the blank)?
Is our default answer to new, creative, [...]

Are we REALLY reaching the lost?

Traditionally, Baptist churches have looked at their baptism statistics to judge whether or not they are effectively reaching the lost.  I’ve always had a problem with this form of analyzing because it doesn’t clearly tell if:

The person that was baptized had just come to know Christ as their Savior.
They had already become a believer at [...]

Serving all around the world

This summer we, Henderson Hills Baptist Church, have 19 college students going literally all over the world serving Christ in many different and varied ways.  Right now we have teams in:

Ecuador - college mission trip
Mexico - family mission trip
Barcelona, Spain - college mission trip
Hyderabad, India - one student
Florence, Italy - one student
Jamaica - one student
Amazon jungle, [...]

Photography 101 - Aperture

I’m going to try and do my best to answer common questions that I am asked related to photography.  In three separate posts I’ll try and explain:

Aperture/F-Stop
Shutter speed
ISO/ASA

Here’s my explanation of aperture:
Aperture or F-Stop is to the camera as your iris is to your eye.  The lens controls the amount of light it allows into the camera [...]

Improve Your Google Searches

I found this information on Lifehacker.com.  They pointed me to dumblittleman.com where he lists 20 ways to improve your Google Searches.  Google is my favorite search engine.  In fact, it’s pretty well know I think Google plans rule the internet.  (IMHO)
For someone who uses Google everyday, I found these tips really handy.  Here’s just a few to [...]

How God is moving…

The last two weeks have been really cool.  Here’s a couple of ways that I’ve seen God moving in the lives of people at Henderson Hills:

Middle School Camp - Last week we had 217 Middle School students attend our summer camp.  The Camp theme was “Get Infected”.  They ALWAYS come up with a cool theme [...]

Church “Vibe”

Seth Godin wrote this morning in his blog about “Business Vibe”.  Check it out here: Seth’s blog.
It got me thinking…what’s the “Vibe” when someone comes to church?

Is it positive or negative?
Friendly or unfriendly?
Warm or cold?
Inviting or closed?
Exciting or boring?
Insightful or mundane?
Caring or insensitive?
Loving or indifferent?

Great things to think about.  I do believe what he says at the [...]

Web 2.0 hits Little League

I just found a new tool that I could have really used when I was coaching.  I’ve coached my boys when they played basketball, baseball, and lastly soccer.  One of the headaches of coaching is communicating with the parents.
Keeping up with:

Practice and game schedules
Player information
Parent information
Refreshment schedules
Cancellations
Statistics
Photos
and sooooooo much more

Here’s something that I found over at [...]

iPhone Ads

Have you seen the new iPhone ads? They are really slick.
I’m not in the market for a new phone, especially one that is estimated to come on the market for approx $500-$600 bucks! I’ll keep my Treo 700p and just be satisfied with my 60g iPod.
But…it really looks cool.  Check it out here: iPhone TV ads

Communication Decisions

I’ve been asked a few times how we, Henderson Hills, make decisions as to what gets included in our communication pieces. I’m including part of an email that I sent to someone trying to explain the steps we take to determine what gets promoted and what does not.
Yes, you read that right….some things don’t get promoted! Now don’t [...]
